Acting is next best step after modelling: Simran

Model-turned-actress Simran Kaur Mundi, who is making her Telugu debut with “Potugadu“, isn’t sure if modelling opens the gateway to filmdom, but she says she is certain that the best step after modelling is acting.

“I do know that if modelling is a school, then acting is graduation. Since we all want to excel in life, acting is the next best step after modelling,” Simran told.

Simran, a former beauty queen, says the relationship between an actor and camera is very important.

“One thing that I learnt as a model is to love the camera. If you learn to do that, the camera will love you back and that is the best relationship you can ever be in as an actor,” said the actress, who was crowned Miss India Universe in 2008.

A Punjabi by descent, Simran Kaur Mundi, in “Potugadu” plays a typical south Indian paired with actor Manchu Manoj.

“One of the main reasons why I got interested in ‘Potugadu’ was because I fell in love with my look. I’m playing a Brahmin girl wearing half sari and gajra and (with hair tied in) plaits. I think it’s my best look so far and I have never looked this pretty,” said Simran.

Asked if she had trouble transforming into a south Indian, she said, “I’m an actor and I have to learn to don different looks and pull them off convincingly. I’m quiet versatile that way and I did manage to pull off the typical south Indian look well.”

“If not as a Punjabi, then I think I can pass off as a Brahmin south Indian girl for sure,” she said, and broke into a laugh.

Having worked in Bollywood in films such as “Jo Hum Chahein” and “Best of Luck”, she finds the Telugu industry more hospitable.

“Both the industries are very similar and yet different. But one thing that I really like about Telugu industry is the hospitality. I felt welcome on the first day on sets like never before and instantly felt like I was home,” she said.

On the Hindi movies front, Simran is awaiting the release of the comedy “Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi”, which is jointly produced by Ekta Kapoor and Bejoy Nambiar.

She also has a big budget Hindi film in the offing, while she is set to start shooting for a Punjabi project soon.

Will Priyamani’s desire get Wings??

Actress Priyamani is not just a package of beauty but also good acting talent.

She has won awards in Tamil and Malayalam whereas in Telugu she is a glamour girl.

In the past, she has acted in films like ‘Yamadonga’ ‘Drona’ and earned the tag of a sexy bomb.

However, she has fallen back in the heroine race.

Now, it is heard that this buxom beauty is pinning all her hopes on her new film ‘Chandi’.

With no proper offers in hand, sources say Priyamani spent a lot of time, gave a lot of call sheets for this project.

The film also has seniors like Krishnamraju, Sarathkumar which has added value.

Even the producers are putting good efforts to push the film aggressively. It is heard that Priyamani’s character is designed with a historical link.

That way, Priyamani is reportedly eager to show all her talent through ‘Chandi’ and is hoping that her desire to get back into the main league will be fulfilled with this. Will this happen, let us wait and see.

Vijay TV to apologize to Heroine

Broadcast Content Complainants Council (BCCC), the self regulatory body of entertainment channels, has directed STAR Vijay TV to apologize to actress Ranjitha for showing her in a bad light. The channel was asked to apologize to the actress by running a scroll featuring the apology for every two hours for one week starting from September 9th for telecasting its programme ‘Nadanthadhu Enna – Kutramum Pinnaniyum’ on March 21st, 2012.

The order: “In the Council’s opinion, the channel is guilty of violating the complainant’s privacy and dignity. So, it is consequently liable to apologize to the complainant Ranjitha Menon. This programme was found to be in violation of a self-regulatory guidelines of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF). The channel has clearly undermined the basic rights of the complainant”.

Actually, Ranjitha has approached Karnataka High Court saying that the channel has telecasted certain clippings on the programme ‘Nadanthadhu Enna – Kutramum Pinnaniyum’, invading her privacy. As Star Vijay is an entertainment channel, High Court has forwarded the complaint to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s BCCC. Finally, the verdict has come in favour of the actress.

Acting is not Karthika’s bread and butter

She is the daughter of yesteryear actress Radha, and niece of Ambika, both of whom were stars in their own right down south. Yet Karthika Nair, who will make her Sandalwood debut with Darshan’s Brindavana, says that acting was not exactly part of her plan.

“I was born and brought up in Mumbai, where my dad runs a chain of hotels and resorts. I grew up on a staple diet of my mom and aunt’s films, but thought that I would take up dad’s business. In fact, I was all set to take up a course in hotel management in Switzerland, when the offer for my first Telugu film, Josh, came. I was on vacation then, and we thought, ‘Why not try it out?’. Soon after, I signed up for the Tamil film Ko and Malayalam film Makaramanju.

I spent nearly a year on the making of Ko and realized that studying abroad was not going to happen, as they are very strict with attendance. Instead, I enrolled for a distance education programme with the London School of Economics. I have another year left to complete my graduation and if I do, I will perhaps be the first actress to complete the course. It is very tough,” says Karthika.

Now that films have happened for her, the young actress tells us that she will enjoy this phase for as long as it lasts. “I have no illusions about being an actress all my life. It is also not my bread and butter. I want to do good cinema in various genres, as I have been doing so far, for as long as I can. But yes, I have a backup plan in place. That’s not to say that films are not priority. While I am at it, I will give it my all,” says Karthika, who has just wound up work on Brindavana, and now heads home to Mumbai.

“I will miss the team of Brindavana. Years ago, immediately after Josh, I had got several offers to act in Kannada films. I did not take them up as I was not sure if I was ready to take on another alien language, just months after having struggled with Telugu (the actress speaks Malayalam at home). But when this film came along, there were several factors that worked in its favour. For starters, it is the remake of a very successful film, so you take it for granted that the formula will work here too.

The producers have gone out of their way to ensure that their version looks grand and have spared no expense, be it in flying us to Iceland or Thailand, among others. And last, but not the least, the fact that I am debuting with one of Kannada cinema’s biggest stars Darshan,” she says and adds, “But now, I need a break from all of this. In the south, people recognize me and I can’t be myself and have fun. Back home in Mumbai, though, I am a regular youngster, who can hang out with friends, go mall-hopping, hit the theatres, etc.”

Up next, Karthika will join the team of her Tamil film Deal. “But before that, there is a mandatory trip to Kerala for Onam. My grandmother celebrates her birthday at around that time. My dad is very particular that we stay true to our roots and hence we visit family there often,” she says.

Her Attitude Shocked Everyone!

Attitude of heroines generally shocks many producers and directors. Of late many girls are throwing starry tantrums once they score some points in film industry. But the kind of attitude we are talking about is quite different.

Sexy Mallu lady Mamta Mohandas is a stunner the other day when she walked the red carpet of ‘Santosham Film  Awards‘. Many young heroines and other actors got their hair rising after looking at the attitude of this gorgeous beauty.

Apparently Mamta is diagnosed with Cancer for the second time after she had a big fight with it a couple of years back. Without losing confidence, she went to hospitals in between her shooting schedule gaps and got treated. After recovering, she is still ruling Malayalam cinema with her star image. Recently she got divorced from her husband of one year, but that doesn’t hold her back.

What is to be noted is, all these happenings have never taken toll on Mamta’s confidence and she is always a daring and brave lady. That attitude is a sure shot shock for people who worry for every small thing that accounts to nothing in their lives.

Heroine’s laughter therapy

Have you ever heard about the quote ‘Laughter is the best medicine’! Now, An actress who is known for her acting prowess has become a strong advocate of this wonderful statement. The hottie in focus is none other than the dusky siren Amala Paul.

Off late, Amala Paul has begun preaching about the benefits of laughter. She conveys laughter is best medicine for humans to keep negative energies at bay and even attributes her good looks to her constant flashy smile.

People who are close to the actress say she has the habit of bursting out into laughter even for the smallest jokes and she is very happy being that way.

Despite pairing opposite stars like Ram Charan (Nayak) and Allu Arjun (Iddarammayilatho), Amala Paul failed to capitalize on those big projects and that’s the reason why she has no biggies in her kitty at the moment.

The only Telugu project in her hand is ‘Jenda Pai Kapiraju‘ starring Nani in the lead. She definitely needs this laughter therapy at the moment! Isn’t it, right!!!

Trisha’s Tattoo comedy in discussion

With no work in hand, it looks like our dusky seductress is actually making lot of fun around. Her jokes are simply throwing people into huge laughs, though she expected something else from it.

Seductress from Chennai, 30 year old Trisha is not a happening heroine anymore. after more than a decade of successful career in Tollywood and Kollywood with many big-projects in her kitty, this heroine is on the verge of retirement now. To turn attention, Trisha is now revealing the purpose of that tattoo on her chest, 13 years after its etching. Trisha says that when producers are actually are asking her for a skin show, she was advised to get that tattoo done as a beauty spot. To make producers refrain from asking for exposing as they will get caught in the magic of that fish tattoo, she resorted to the act.

Cine observers are laughing with these talks of Trisha. Because, to show that tattoo itself, the dusky beauty has to sexpose a lot. Even after that tattoo is etched, Trisha never stopped going wild with her cleavage, navel and thunder thigh displays. So, is it not comedy to say Tattoo is to avoid exposing?

Sid-Sam’s cosy moment!

The alleged love affair of Siddharth and Samantha  has once again come under spotlight with the couple gracing the wedding of Producer Chakravarthy Ramachandra (Love Failure fame) together on Friday in Hyderabad. Mr Chakravarthy is a close buddy of Sid and also worked as his manager for a period of time.

Sources say, Both Siddharth and Samantha were very much comfortable in each other’s company and they were seen whispering at lot throughout the evening. The Jabardasth stars were seen laughing madly during the conversations and the onlookers can’t stop starring at them for the kind of chemistry they share even off the screens.

We knew that the two promising actors have always refused to admit the fact that they were seeing each other due to professional reasons, but the people who were fortunate to see them together can’t stop talking about their cosy moments to spread the talk – ‘more than just friends’. Time for the love birds to either confess about their relationship or stay away from public appearances.

Kajal Agarwal’s chapter is Closed?

There was a time when Kajal Agarwal was the hot property in Tollywood and she had literally half a dozen films on hand. After pairing up with Ram Charan in ‘Magadheera’ the stars of Kajal Agarwal changed and she became the most in-demand girl. But now it appears that Kajal is almost on the verge of packup.

Apparently, sources say Kajal has just got a role in the new film ‘Yevadu’ starring Ram Charan but this one is also just a cameo.

Apart from that, she has got two films in Tamil one with Vijay and the other with Karthi.

Buzz is that even if one film flops then it will be difficult for Kajal to sustain in that industry as well.

That way, Kajal’s situation seems rather dicey as per sources. Some are already declaring that Kajal’s career has come to the climax stages and that is why she is busy uploading her old advertisements on her Facebook profile. We have to wait and see if this saucy seductress will bounce back or not.

Heroine and Daughter to Act as Sisters

The age gap between a mother and her daughter will be wide but there are times when looks wise the mother can have enough material in her. And this tends to give others the picture that she looks more like a sister to her daughter. And right now, something like that is happening in the cine circuit due to one lady.

She is none other than Sridevi and reports say if things work out, she might be seen in a film wherein she would be doing the role of elder sister to her daughter Jhanvi Kapoor .

Apparently, sources from Mumbai reveal plans are being prepared for Jhanvi Kapoor’s debut flick and the makers are considering Sridevi for the role of Jhanvi Kapoor’s elder sister.

Even the script is being prepared in that angle. Buzz is that a series of discussions are happening in Bollywood regarding this project.

Of course, some are debating on how the audience will accept this pair, there are those who strongly believe that Sridevi has enough charisma to pull this one off. Let us see what happens.

Vikram’s next with Gautham Menon?

Tamil actor Vikram, busy shooting for director Shankar’s “Ai”, may join hands for the first time with filmmaker Gautham Menon.

“Gautham recently narrated a story to Vikram, and the actor loved it. He even expressed his interest to work with him as soon as he completes ‘Ai’, which is nearing completion,” a source from the industry told IANS.

A source close to Vikram said that Vikram had a discussion with Gautham recently.

“But we are not sure if their discussion ended in signing a movie deal. He hasn’t shared any information on the same with us,” added the source.

Vikram has spent more than a year on “Ai”, which is 90 percent complete and is slated to release soon.

Yami Gautam Becomes Fitness Freak

Actress Yami Gautam is a fitness enthusiast and is said to be undertaking a gruelling workout regime.

She is a regular with Hot Yoga, an exercise performed under hot and humid conditions. But she has lately taken on TRX as a new workout regime to stay fit, said a statement.

TRX uses a system of ropes, straps, bands, or slings to allow users to perform resistance exercises using their own body weight. It’s also very rigorous and requires a lot of core strength.

Yami has been busy training in TRX and she ensures that she doesn’t miss a single day of working out. She feels it provides a complete workout and it is more effective than traditional weight training.

The Line That Impressed Vikram

It took Gautham Vasudev Menon, just one line to impress actor Vikram and get to nod him for their next project together. Vikram is currently shooting the remaining quarter of Shankar’s ‘Ai’ and was earlier spoken by Silver Line Film Factory for ‘Karikalan’. If rumours are to be believed, Vikram is kicked about signing the dotted line with Gautam Menon for this project, which is also rolled out by Silver Line Film Factory; meanwhile, ‘Karikalan’ is to be stalled until this one is complete.

So what is it that got Vikram to be so geared up about this project? We hear from sources close to the biggies that all it took Gautam was one line to impress Chiyan to essay the lead role in this movie. Sources say that Gautam had explained the fresh yet powerful story in just one ineffective line, which has gotten Vikram to agree to the deal. Vikram is not someone who would act in every story; each of his new film is a brand new story line at a greater height of creativity, than the previous. So what do you think the new story will be like?

Thalaivaa August 20 Release in Tamil Nadu: Official

Ilayathalapathy Vijay can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Surmounting many barriers and difficulties, his 70-Crore mega project Thalaivaa, will finally release in his own home state Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (August 20), announced Vendhar Movies.

The film has been given a nod to release, after the film makers have agreed to remove the tag line ‘Time to Lead”.

Vendhar Movies, the film’s distributors in the state, tweeted on their page, “Thalaivaa finally releasing on Tuesday”.

The advance bookings are expected to begin tomorrow and all the major multiplexes may be expected to allot Thalaivaa their best screens.

Yet there is no clarity on how the film secured green signal for being released from the theatre owners. There is no information yet on what deal the film makers did in the background to secure the release.

‘Thalaivaa’, which was scheduled to release on August 9, was stalled in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, following a student group issued bomb threats to theatre owners and the police were non-commital on providing security to theatres.

Vijay’s clarification that it’s not a political film didn’t help in anyway and the film remained stalled, even after a week of it’s release world wide,.

Later Chandra Prakash Jain, producer of the film requested the intervention of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha to help the film’s release in TN and Pudhucherry. He and the film crew sought an appointment with the CM, but the appointment was never granted.

Frustrated over the long delay in the release, the entire cast and crew of the film decided to go on a hunger strike. However the Chennai police commissioner denied the permission for it.

Meanwhile, producer J Anbazhagan(DMK) of Anbu Pictures had earlier on Friday, made an offer to help releasing the film in 300 theatres across the state at his own risks.

Against this backdrop, Vendhar Movies on Saturday night, tweeted that the film would finally hit the screens on Tuesday.

Inspite of the release, the non-availability of theatres will surely going to be another hitch for Thalaivaa, with the couple of last minute releases, 555 and Aadhalaal Kadhal Seiveer, doing pretty well in all theaters, and upcoming Desingu Raja capturing around 300 theatres.

More over, it would be tough for the Thalaivaa team to look forward to a blockbuster experience, with a mid week release date and a dragging second half.

Thalaivaa review

Tamil film, “Thalaivaa”, one of the most-anticipated films of 2013, has been released worldwide except at home – Tamil Nadu. The family entertainer is directed by A L Vijay of “Deiva Thirumagal” fame.

The film features Vijay and Amala Paul in the lead roles, while Ragini Nandwani, Rajiv Pillai, Santhanam and Sathyaraj play supporting roles. “Thalaivaa” tells the story of a man who turns into a leader.

Upon watching the film this perspective is not hard to understand as his latest, reveals a Vijay different from what we’ve ever seen before. Helmed as a more serious action flick, reminiscent of Godfather tones in its trailers, Thalaiva took on the bold task of marrying commercial action with a grittier look at how those without means seek justice for a myriad of social issues.

Story:
A common man with common dreams went on to become the leader… This is the story of Vijay’s controversy-coated Thalaivaa.

The film begins in 1988 when South Indian community in Mumbai is attacked, there emerges a leader Anna (Sathyaraj) and in the midst of fighting for the people Anna hands over his son to his friend (Nazar), who migrates to Australia.

Cut back to the present era: Anna’s son, Vishwa (Vijay) is now a professional dancer in Australia, there he meets Amala Paul and falls in love. Vishwa along with his ladylove and father-in-law (Suresh) travels to Mumbai to meet his father and fix the marriage. But Vishwa gets the shock of his life and he realizes that his father is in trouble. He now decides to fulfill his duties as a doting son and goes to an extend to sacrifice his love. The rest of the story is all about the transition of an innocent young man (Vishwa) to a leader (Vishwa Bhai). He is now ready to take on his dad’s enemies.

Chennai Express movie review

Salman Khan did it. So, does Shahrukh Khan with his latest outing Chennai Express. To make up for the lull in his career, Shah Rukh joins hands with the 100 crore club-director Rohit Shetty for an over the top film which is based on quintessential south masala formula. The film is meant to be an Eid bonanza for Shahrukh Khan fans across the world.

Story:
Well, for starters, it’s the usual boy meets girl out of the blue and one thing leads to another. Only here, the meeting is reminiscent of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge and the boy is a 40-year-old Punjabi man Rahul. Yes, we do get the ‘Naam toh suna hoga’. En route to Rameshwaram to immerse his grandfather’s ashes on his grandmother’s request, he ends up meeting Meenamma alias Meena on the Chennai Express. Meena is on the run to avoid getting married to Thangabali (Dheer) from her neighbouring village. Meena’s father (Sathyaraj) happens to be a local don and she brings Rahul to him and insists they are in love. What follows is a madcap adventure for Rahul and how he manages to get Meena.

Performance:
Shah Rukh is his usual best. He tries his best to fit into the Rohit Shetty-style of comedy. But towards the end of the film, he gets into his DDLJ inspired role and he is a pleasure to watch. The film hardly has any Bollywood actors and Shah Rukh manages to pull the film along.

But it’s Deepika who dazzles in her role. She actually overshadows Shah Rukh with her cute, dimpled smiles and thick Tamil accent.

Satyaraj plays the bad father who towards the climax relents to his little girl’s wish. He puts in a decent performance.

Priyamani does an item song and she sizzles adequately.

Technical Team:
Music by Vishal Sekhar is good. They include an item number in the first half and it’s bound to woo the masses. A special mention has to be made of the picturisation of Titli and Kanyakumari songs. Though the first half stretches a bit, the editing is crisp in the second half.

Blending Shah Rukh-style romance and Rohit Shetty style comedy in one film is definitely tough. But director Rohit Shetty tries his best to make use of Shah Rukh trademark gaze and stretching arms to appease his fans. Of course, there are some glitches, but Shetty more than makes up for them by relying heavily on his lead pair.

Highlights:

Entertainment
Shah Rukh
Deepika
Music

Minus Points:

The screenplay is weak in the first half
The film has a lot of Tamil dialogues
Analysis:
If you are a regular watcher of Telugu and Tamil films, chances are that you may not find this over-the-top comedy to your liking. However, there are some comic scenes that are bound to evoke laughs. In fact, some of the popular scenes from Telugu and Tamil films have been copied directly, so there is a sense of déjà vu.

But Rohit Shetty surely knows the pulse of his audience. He deftly mixes action, comedy and sentiment in equal measures to keep his audience glued. Little wonder that he has made it to the 100 crore club.

While the opening scenes are gripping, the movie begins to falter towards the interval. Once the story shifts to Tamil Nadu, the story loses steam and there are many Tamil dialogues. In fact, you feel the need for subtitles. But Rohit Shetty manages to more than make up in the second half. He banks heavily on one-liners and his brand of buffonery to chug the train along.

The chart-topping Lungi dance comes with the title credits and is total paisa vasool.

Shah Rukh Khan, entertainment, music and Eid… Chennai Express has a lot going for it. Get on this Express, but be prepared for Rohit Shetty-brand entertainer!

On the other hand, Simbhu claimed he would be marrying Hansika with the consent of his parents in 2014 and wished to lead the marital life in a peaceful and dignified manner like Ajith who is his favorite hero.

The difference in the statements might be either due to the lack of proper co-ordination or different mind sets. They should have at least discussed few important things like marriage by now to maintain a clarity. Hope, the Love Birds learn from their mistakes.

Sonna Puriyathu – Movie Review

The promotional activities for the film was perhaps a major reason behind drawing us into the theatres. Sonna Puriyathu starring Mirchi Shiva and Vasundhara in lead roles is a romantic comedy that has a lot of witty lines from the actor. Not to miss the fact that the very opening scene of this films keeps you on huge laughter as he croons the Hindi version of Rosaappu song from Suryavamsam.

Mirchi Shiva enjoys his life as a dubbing artist for Hollywood and other foreign films and has no plans to get married. He perceives it to be a trap that will spoil his entire life without any freedom. All he dreams is about is buying a Volkwagan car.

When his mother theatens him on going for a long pilgrimage as a penance to get his son married, he accepts to enter wedlock with a TV anchor Anjali (Vasundhara), who happens to be a calm and innocent girl, who is too religious. But as the time pass by, they come to know about each other’s true identity. As they plot plans to stop the marriage without the attention of their parents, they find themselves married to each other after a hard night party.

The film opens with a pleasant touch as it goes on with some lively moments. Mirchi Shiva’s witty one liners stands out as the major highlight of this film. His mannerisms and body language on pars contribute a lot to the humour elements. Vasundhara does her part well in the role of an urban girl. Manobala as the owner of matrimony web portal adds to the hilarious portions.

The technical details of this film could have been better for the music and cinematography doesn’t stand well to enhance the feeling.

On the whole, Sonna Puriyathu can be watched for the comedy elements of Mirchi Shiva, while with screenplay, it could have been yet more crispy.

Pattathu Yaanai – Tamil Movie Review

When it comes to Boopathy Pandian films, you can expect a bunch of funny moments that is laced with action and romance. It has been quite evident with his previous movies and Pattathu Yaanai is no exception as it carries the same traits of the director’s previous films.

To start off with, the film has some elements resembling the film ‘Malaikottai’ that was directed by Boopathy Pandian with Vishal in lead role.

Cinema News from Tamilomovie.com

Click here for Today’s Special News and Events at Tamilo.com

The film opens in Karaikkudi with Santhanam spotted as a catering cook and he employs a team of 5 members to assist him that includes Vishal, Jagan, Vada Poche Sarithiran and others.

When they lock horns with a local rowdy, the entire team escapes to Trichy for starting a new hotel there. However, things take a turn when Vishal falls in love with a school girl Aishwarya (daughter of action king Arjun). Vishal a dark past that revisits him on the course of conflict with the baddies, who come his way.

First things first, the film has a lot of comedy features and we need to appreciate Santhanam for his continuous series of jokes in the first half. The very moment he disappears from the screens post-intermission, it turns out to be a sluggish drama, but again, he is back soon to wrap up the film with climax. Especially, the final portions of the film that involves his humour is a big stroke, where he says, ‘Yaaruda Ivan, Colour Xerox Edutha Godzilla Maathiri Irukkaan’.

Vishal has to work a lot on picking the right kind of script. This one is passable in parts, but for him he really needs a big stroke to accomplish with his status as an A-league actor. Aishwarya Arjun doesn’t get a perfect launch and is a big minus to this film. The only convincing point is she plays the school girl role and it’s quite apt for her looks. The others in the star-cast are perfect and the humorous villains are a cherry-pick.

The musical score by Thaman is average with a couple of songs turning to be feet-tapping numbers. Both the cinematography and editing has been done with good depth, which keeps the momentum right in places.
On the whole, ‘Pattathu Yaanai’ is a worth watching film if you’re intensely looking out for a time pass entertainer.

STR and Gautam V Menon to team up?

Gautham V Menon’s Dhruv Natchitharam is constantly surging the news for many a reason. For once the movie being shelved was something that went on the rumor mills of Kollywood for a while, then the news of story being looked upon surfaced as well. Then the director himself tweeted in a social network site that not to write him off and he will bounce back.

Not far away the news of STR and Menon teaming up for a movie is also doing its rounds. A while back it was speculated that Vinnaithandi Varuvaya might have a sequel and so on, but then it is rumored that this will not be on the lines of VV and a total different aspect is what is on the cards. The duos share a great bond from VV, and who would not like them to join hands for a flick! So it is all a wait and watch game

It is worth mentioning that of the five friends, composer Anirudh is also one. Of the many boy things that Dhanush wanted to indulge in, catching up with Lion King Musical, listening to the London Orchestra and watching a match of the series between Australia and England, are a few that we heard he will certainly be doing. After all the excellent acting, this is the much needed break that Dhanush deserves.

‘Balle Laka’ Singer Becomes Designer

Singer, designer, creative personality and wife of producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri, Anusha Dhayanidhi was the impressive behind the track ‘Balle Laka’ from Ajith starrer ‘Mankaatha’. The concerned hubby Dhayanidhi has now roped in Anusha to design costumes for his next production venture. Speaking on her career in the industry, Anusha says “My husband is very supportive.

He constantly keeps pushing me to stage my creativity. When I sang ‘Balle Laka’, he was the happiest person I’ve ever come across. After that, he had been insisting that I must put my design brains to use in the industry. And now, he has offered me a chance in his own film.

However, I would like to hold an independent mark of recognition in the industry.” Anusha will be designing clothes for actor Jai’s next film, with debutante director Saravanan. She further added that she will be using vibrant colours throughout the film, for a feel good appeal.

What is Trisha doing in Hyderabad?

Dusky seductress Trisha is no more a sought after heroine in film circuits, but surely she is a big piece when it comes to rumour land. The other day, with many people spotting her in Hyderabad, it became big talk now.

After announcing a ‘big break’ from shootings, petite siren Trisha stated that she is actually getting into hibernation mode and will not keep in touch for a while with anyone. But it turned a big surprise when the Chennai siren was spotted in Hyderabad the other day. Early in the morning, some people have actually noticed her at Taj Falaknama hotel in Hyderabad, while some say that they have seen her eating Haleem at a famous joint in twin cities.

Also there are rumours that Trisha has flown down to AP capital in order to spend some time with her close-friend, a struggling Telugu hero. Anyway, she went back to Chennai by the evening according to some reports.

Cine observers are saying that with no films in hand, Trisha is actually taking the help of her ‘friend’ in Tollywood to actually bag some projects. Before that, she also wants to spend some quality time with him. Maybe that is why she is Hyderabad the other day.

Kajal Agarwal’s over action lands her in trouble

Glamour actress Kajal Agarwal has been riding high earlier this year with a series of hits up her sleeve. She scored hits in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi within a span of few months and was labeled as the number one heroine of South Cinema. However, she got carried away by the successful streak and got greedy. She demanded for high remuneration and scared off the producers. With Kajal’s demands going over board, producers opted for other heroines and as a result Kajal is left empty handed in Tollywood, despite having excellent track record.

Right now Kajal has only two films in Tamil, one with Vijay and the other with Karthi. In Telugu no one is approaching her as she is reluctant to cut down the remuneration. She has already lost a film each with Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan. With Kajal’s self goal, Samantha, Sruthi Haasan and Tamanna are making merry by signing up multiple projects at a time.

It is high time for the beautiful lass to realize that money is not all and should be flexible with her demands especially when she is offered a film with some superstar. After scoring hits with Nayak and Badshah, Kajal has only Yevadu to release in which she did a cameo. She had two successful films in Hindi but currently she has no Hindi movie on hands. Her high demands are said to be the reason for it. Well, wake up Kajal!

Ethir Neechal – Tamil Movie Review

Ethir Neechal is one of those films where the first and second halves are vaguely connected. The film oscillates between a cliched romantic-comedy and a sports movie at regular intervals only to appear like an inspired version of Simon Pegg’s Run, Fatboy, Run.

The first half of the story revolves around college going Sivakarthikeyan, who is always ridiculed by his friends for his funny sounding name. Tired of always being mocked at, he decides to choose a different moniker with the hope that things would be better.

Guess what, life does take an unexpected turn for our hero. People start treating him with respect and he even finds himself a girlfriend. However, what follows is a completely different second half, which explains why our hero out of the blue decides to run a marathon. By the end of the film, you ask yourself what was the connection between the first and the second half?

The film starts off like every other romantic-comedy with adequate amount of comedy and drama, but there’s hardly anything spectacular to rave about, including the story.

At some junctures it seems to be inspired by the Simon Pegg film, especially in the second half. The English movie was about a guy, who once jilted his fiancée, decides to run a marathon to win her back. Here, we see a guy running a marathon to prove something that he couldn’t all his life.

Most sports films have a tendency to glorify our hero to the heights of a champion even before winning, and that’s precisely what you see in the film. To add to the woes, we have a bad guy even in the sports arena.

Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru – Tamil Movie Review

Rating: 3.0/5

In the recent years, small-budget comedy films have worked big time, and it is not surprising to see filmmakers considering the comedy genre as a safe bet. Earlier this year, we witnessed hit movies like Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya and Soodhu Kavvum. Now, we are game for yet another film Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru, a bilingual movie which is also made in Telugu as Something Something.

Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru is directed by Sundar C, who has tasted a lot of success in comedy genre. He has teamed up with UTV Motion Pictures after his last year hit movie Kalakalappu. He has chosen Siddharth, Hansika Motwani, Santhanam and Ganesh Venkataraman to play the lead roles. Does the director has a winner in hand? Checkout in the review….

Kumar (Siddharth) and George (Ganesh Venkataram) work at a software company. Their characters are different all together. While the former is shy and feels awkward to talk to girls, the latter has a high ability to attract woman. There enters a girl in their life in the form of Sanjana played by Hansika Motwani.

The Boys actor instantly falls for Sanjana and wants to win her. Being an introvert, he does not have the required confidence to impress her. This paves way for love guru Mokia (Santhanam) to enter in the picture. The former seeks the help of latter in order to make her fall in love with him. And the game begins.

There is a certain kind of freshness in Sundar’s approach. His characterisation and screenplay are built on humorous one-liners. The underlining point of the comedy is that there is no double entendre and it is enjoyable by all sections of the audience.

A hint of ‘Ivan Vera Mathiri’ from Saravanan

Director Saravanan’s ‘Ivan Vera Mathiri’ will feature a story on the similar lines of the title itself according to the director who shared his experiences on a leading magazine.

The movie will showcase an individual who stands apart from the rest, who shatters his ground when everyone looks things in a normal way. Apparently the story of the movie was first put forth to Arya and then after turns Vikram Prabhu’s daring look from Kumki seem to have convinced the director.

Actress Surabhi is also set to have taken special language classes for being well versed in Tamil, considering the movie is to be taken 90% in and around Chennai. The movie is not a complete action buster and will also have enough of cupid’s twist induced.

The movie is being produced by Lingusamy’s production house which is slowly in the line of introducing the best out of fresh talents. Either way, Saravanan’s Ivan Veramadiri is building the hype out of a sharp looking hero and an innovative director.

Ganja Karuppu and crew invite trouble at theatre

As we had reported sometime ago, Ganja Karuppu has turned producer for his flick Velmurugan Borewells featuring the likes of Angaditheru fame – Mahesh, Ragasiya and Arushi. A directorial offering from MP Gopi, a recent move from the director was reason enough to wipe the smile of its producer(Ganja Karuppu) , who usually is seen at his comic best.

The case here was being a unanimous decision to shoot an action sequence inside the Ravibala theater in Sivagangai. The whole scene was planned to be carried out in secrecy, to capture the natural reaction of the crowd who had already bought their tickets for their favorite show. As expected the cameras were set and the tapes started rolling.

Unfortunately, moments later, the situation went out of control as the cameraman and his supporting crew which included a majority of stunt performers were confronted by a huge crowd who did not think twice before they picked up a fight armed with sickles and rods.

Soon, the local policemen were alerted and they reached the spot within time to settle matters amicably. Post this embarrassing incident, Ganja Karuppu has been keeping under the hood and remained unavailable for responses. Even after repeated attempts to contact him there has been no response from his close representatives too.

Good responses flow in for Maryan

It was almost certain that the brand value of AR Rahman, Bharat Bala and Dhanush would be enough to pull in a huge turnout at the theaters when their joint effort Maryan arrived at screens worldwide this July 19.

Not disappointing by any means, it has been well received by fans and critics alike as they walked out remarking it to be a grandeur effort in terms of A R Rahman’s music, BharatBala and cinematographer Marc Koninckx intricately composed visuals and of course how can we not mentioning Dhanush’s mastery at his choice of expertise.

Overwhelmed with responses flooding in, despite the trendy pre-release heavy marketing,AR Rahman remarked at his micro blog “I am super thrilled and happy with the kind comments on Maryan songs, score and the success of the movie… Ellapugazhum irraivanukke!”

Dhanush said “Im so overwhelmed by d grand openin u guys gave mariyaan inspite of no publicity.Dis love s wat I ve earned d past 13 years n cinema.touched”

Likewise, Dhayanidhi Alagiri wrote on his micro blog ”after watching Maryan I’m getting so excited about the movie that I’m gonna produce… Vetri Maaran and Dhanush k Raja’s striking combo…the man, AR Rahman has done a master piece… Maryan was superb !!” Dhanush and Parvathy have also been receiving compliments on their on screen chemistry too. Funded by Aascar Films, its producer is happy that soon the returns will break even helping him achieve the desired revenues in the following weeks.

OM 3D - Movie Review

After three-year and half year long gap, Kalyan Ram, the third generation Nandamuri scion, has made his grand comeback with his much-delayed movie OM 3D, which has soared up the curiosity and expectations to sky high. It is a routine revenge drama with interesting twists. But what makes it special is its well shot action scenes using 3D technology. The film will surely impress action lovers. It introduces viewers to a new kind of cinematic experience. OM 3D is romantic action entertainer and it happens to be India's first action 3D film. It is clearly the show of Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, whose performance is the main highlight in the film. Sunil Reddy's engrossing tale, narration and punch dialogues, Achu Rajamani and Sai Karthik's music and background score, Ajayan Vincent's cinematography, stylish action scenes, Rao Ramesh's comedy and amazing 3D work together make it a visual treat. Kalyan Ram's hit flicks Athanokkade and Hare Ram, OM 3D is also a revenge drama, but what makes it different from them is the inclusion of several interesting twists and turns. Sunil Reddy has penned an interesting tale, which engrossing and entertaining. The movie is all about father-son sentiment and it focuses on how the hero undertake a fight for his father. The director makes amazing grip on the tempo which will surely make you watch it sitting on the edge of your seat. The movie opens with an introduction to different characters and it soon goes into flashback mode. Then follows a couple of romantic songs, few fights, car chase and comedy scenes in the first half, which is quite engaging and entertaining. Especially, a terrific twist at the interval bang is superb and accelerates its pace. The back to back twists increase its intensity in second half. The climax is also good.

Kevvu Keka - Movie Review

Comedy King Allari Naresh has once again teamed up with Devi Prasad five years after the release of their hit movie Blade Babji. Prior its release, the combo's second film Kevvu Keka the title of which has been inspired a song from the Pawan Kalyan's Gabbar Singh, had created lot of expectations among film goers, but the movie is partially successful in reaching them. Kevvu Keka is an out-and-out slapstick comedy movie with a few other masala ingredients. Allari Naresh's perfect comedy timing is the main attraction in the film. Devi Prasad's narration and funny dialogues, Bheems and Chinni Charan's music and Adusumilli Vijay Kumar's cinematography, costumes and art direction are its other highlights. The dragging narration in the second half is its one big drawback. Devi Prasad, who has good grip on comedy, has once again tried to bank on the same genre. The director, who has penned the story and screenplay for the film, has taken a cliched storyline and depicted in a comical way. Set in the backdrop of a kidnap, Kevvu Keka revolves around an ambitious guy, who wants to earn money to win his girlfriends hand. Although he has tried his best in offering a full-length comedy, the director fails miserably in his mission. Kevvu Keka has some of the very interesting moments like scenes in shopping mall and party and medley song in the first half, which has fast-paced tempo with comedy quotient. But its entertainment quotient falls down utterly with slow-paced narration in the second half. The dragging climax may bore you a lot.

MARIYAAN REVIEW

Mariyaan is an Indian Tamil drama thriller film directed by Bharat Bala starring Dhanush alongside Parvathi Menon.

Produced by Venu Ravichandran, the film has music and background score composed by AR Rahman and cinematography by Marc Koninckx.

Dialogues in the film are penned by RN Joe D’Cruz.

Movie: Mariyaan
Directed: Bharat Bala
Produced: Venu Ravichandran
Written & Screenplay: Bharat Bala, Sriram Rajan
Star Cast: Dhanush as Mariyaan, Parvathi Menon as Panimalar, Salim Kumar as Thomayya, Appukutty, Jagan, Uma Riyaz Khan, Rama, Imman Annachi, Vinayakan, Dagbeth Tweh
Music: AR Rahman
Cinematography: Marc Koninckx
Editing: Vivek Harshan
Studio: Aascar Films
Distributed: Venu Ravichandran

Love shatters all the hurdles and keeps you alive through the ages. Such is the immortality of its power. Mariyaan as Bharat Bala assured was to possess this mighty factor as its heart-and-soul. In contrast, the film fails to impress us to a greater extent.

The white salty sands embracing the sea is the backdrop and we see have Mariyaan (Dhanush), a fisherman with his eccentric skills. His love for Panimalar (Parvathi Menon) takes him to the desert yards of Sudan (Africa), where he is a worker on contract. A couple of years have passed by and he is almost done with the toilsome phase and is gleeful about the future he dreamt about. But on the spur-of-the-moment, he is abducted along with his pals by a terrorising group.

What’s more dis-satisfactory about Mariyaan is the brilliant work of actors and technicians going in vain. Dhanush stuns you with an un-matchable performance in places and keeps you hooked throughout the show. Be the scene, where he grieves over the grave of his pal Sakkarai (Appukutty), his frozen-senses reaction to the friend killed in front of him or his conversation with Panimalar by chiseling the baddies down there is superb. On the pars, Parvathi Menon (Poo fame) spells an enchanting charisma with her natural looks, splendid expressions and prodigious performance. She has inordinately exhibited the pathos and affinity of desolated Panimalar for her beau. She is here sure to establish her realms in Tamil industry. National award winner Salim is completely wasted and Uma Riaz as Dhanush‘s mom is okay.

Poor writing turns out to be the stark blemish here. In spite of actors striving to achieve ne plus ultra performance, the flimsy screenplay lets down us. Getting on with the technical aspects, AR Rahman‘s background score is good in few parts, but his experiments to blend ‘Country Music’ with the nativity here doesn’t have the right impact. On the other side, the background score for African portions, especially the one you hear during the intermission point is a remarkable showpiece. Songs proved to be the Chartbusters of this season, but they are nowhere close to the film. Naturally, ‘Kadal Rasa‘ is a good treat for the audience. Alas! The make-up quotients are completely flawed (don’t miss the Dhanush’s hair style that misses continuity from minute-to-minute).

The outstanding visuals of cinematographer Marc Konincks are appreciable for he gives us the feel of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ in places. Dialogues by Joe D Cruz isn’t appealing, except ‘Oru Moochukku Poi Innoru Moochukku Inga Iruppaen‘ (Mariyaan‘s promise to Panimalar), which is a metaphorical significance of a professional diver completing their underwater task at one breath in fraction of seconds. The stereotypical climax of Hero Vs Villain combat is completely unwanted here and is forced into the script here.

Overall, despite the fact that the actors and technicians have exerted their best, Bharat Bala fails to utilise these big brand factors. While the first half travels in a docu-drama style of picturing the nativity, the second hour remains engrossing in parts with a happy end. But when you walk out of theatres, you’ll feel something is missing here.

PRABHU DEVA’S SHOCK TO HEROINES

Choreographer-actor turned filmmaker Prabhu Deva is on the top of charts for his Bollywood now. Following a couple of back-to-back blockbusters, he is awaiting the release of his third movie ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya‘ that is scheduled for release on July 19.

At the same time, the actor is busy shooting for his next movie titled ‘Rambo Rajkumar‘ that stars Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Meanwhile, he is on the pre-production process for his next film with Ajay Devgn that stars three heroines in female lead characters.

While Sonakshi Sinha and Yami Gautham are already on the list, many heroines in Bollywood approached Prabhu Deva for the third heroine character. But to their shock, he has signed Femina Miss India title winner Maanasvi.
